Hello, my name is Margherita Bilato.
After my Bachelor’s Degree at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), I completed my educational path in Architecture with a Master’s Degree at the Technische Universität Berlin (Germany) in 2014, with a thesis concerning the urban development within an informal context (in Maputo, Mozambique) from the macro to the micro scale, with Professor Jörg Stollmann (Chair for Urban Design and Architecture, TU Berlin) and Visiting Professor Rainer Hehl (Fachgebiet Entwerfen und Innenraumplanung TU Berlin).
Between 2010 and 2015 I have worked for MARS Architekten and Architekturbüro Creutzfeldt (both in Berlin, Germany), gaining experience ranging from the construction sites (in 2015 as site manager) to competitions, enriching my skills both from the architectural and the managerial point of view.
In 2016-2017 I collaborated with White Studio (Berlin, Germany) on the renovation of two resorts in the Maldives, the Alidhoo Spa Resort in the Haa Alif Atoll and the J Club Raalhuveli in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, working both on office tasks and on site as site manager.
In 2017 I started a collaboration with the New York based lighting design firm L’Observatoire International, embracing the architectural lighting design practice. The project range I’ve been working on spans from museums, concert halls, restaurants, high-end boutiques, hotels, cruise ships, and includes collaborations with architectural firms such as Ateliers Jean Nouvel (Paris, France) and Gehry and Partners (Los Angeles, USA).
Architectural lighting design is a powerful and fascinating tool to understand and conceive architecture, and focuses, from the conception until the realisation, alongside with the design architects, on all aspects related to the light which contribute to the perception of spaces, volumes, materials and ambiences.
